I'm wanting to buy a Blu-Ray burner drive, so I can rip out the guts and put it all in a Sonar case... Do you guys think that's a good idea? I'd just buy one of the PS3 sleds, but those can't really do anything besides look awesome, and having the opportunity to have 100mWs + of Violet is just too good to pass up! I'm gonna do a DVD burner one first, just so I can get an idea of what to do, of course... Do you guys think it'd be worth it? I mean, it's like $600 just for the drive, and I don't want to spend that much on something that's gonna blow up in my face... How likely is it that I'd get it to work, do you think?

| That's the PS3 sled I said I wanted to avoid... They only put out like 5-10mWs. |

Then go with the burner. But 100mW of violet; that's "VIOLENCE". |

| I thought blu-ray burners were only ~20mW for QCW operation. Companies barely even make 405nm diodes much higher than 50mW and I don't know that any are in burners yet. |

I see the link but I'm not sure how it relates to your post. The strongest 405nm laser they list is a 30mW, far from 100+ mW the OP is hoping for, not to mention that I believe a forum member contacted this company before and the cheapest 405nm module they sold was a few thousand USD.
I would suggest the OP either be content with ~5mW out of one of the PS3 assay ones, or wait a few months/years for prices to come down on more powerful diodes. |

If you got the money to do it, a freakin 100Mw+ sweeeet colored laser, moneys the issue here, that and how confident you fell on buying it and not breaking the diode in the process, but it from a store, not online, so if you do ruin the diode you can return, it, NOt that im condoning returning a taken apart DVD Burner, |
