I read somewhere that human eye picks up 555nm the most!. As well as I know that green color is most visible to human eye, fact is that Yellow is right there at 556nm. Of course, every eye is a bit different and there is a contrast agains backgound/medium factor also.
In any case, I think that 125mW yellow would be very much as cool as 125mW Fusion! |
These "yellow" lasers are actually orange IMO as you can probably see by the color in the pics above, and so they're 593.5nm. That's still almost as bright as a comparable 532nm greenie per mW, but slightly less. 555nm is the brightest for photopic vision (as opposed to dark-adapted vision) though, and there are 556nm lasers, but those would be more or a green-yellow (lemon lime? ). For the price per visibility though, I believe 532nm is far and above the best value, and its technically still ~90% of 555nm. |

Yes, those (593nm) are nice orange lasers. I don't know if anyone actually sells 556-580nm lasers. Specially in "pen" size. If there are any manufacturers, I'd love to see it. (please post link)
I want lemon lime laser!!!! |

Dream lasers.com and CNI also make some lasers with frequencies that are unique such as
501nm ( blueish-green)
523nm (close to true green)
556nm ( chartreuse-yellow)
589nm (orangeish-yellow)
593nm (orange)
and as some of you may know a laser outputting at 556 would appear the brightest of all lasers, that wavelength is only .5nm away from the peak visual sensitivity and would appear 24% brighter than a laser at 532nm. I've also seen a dpss laser outputting at 561nm close to true yellow. 532nm wavelength is better decribed colorwise as being greenish-chartreuse. Dream Lasers do have some really nice and unique products. They sent me their big catalogue for free and its quite a book with a little crash course on lasers and a glossary .
I ordered 10mW 635nm waterproof pointer from them. Will post a short review with pics when I get it sometime in first week of 2007 http://www.dreamlasers.com/products/laser/635nm%20water-proof%20pointe r%201-10.htm

I would love a yellow pointer. But prices for 1-5mW are sooo high now! If wicked ever makes one I would get it if it was $200 or less for 10mW or higher. Thats it.
I'd rather own yellow or orange than blue or SONAR due to much higher visiblity factor! |
The blues/purple are more rare though. the yellow is very close to the red. But either way you wait long enough and the yellow will probably be just as powerful and as sorta-inexpensive as the greens now. _________________ 125mW Fusion - Divergence- 1.0 mRad | TEM00-TEM01* Doughnut mode | 119mW peak, 103 Nominal

Just curious, what color is your skin? I am absolutely super crazy white pastey so i'm bsically immune to laser fire. I feel warmth after like 2 to 3 seconds. If i mark my arm though, oh man, that's pain. anyway, wondering if i'm the only one who doesn't get burnt by their laser without sharpying myself.
sry for off topic just caught that sig.
um.. yeah.. yellow lasers are tight... cough _________________ OWNER of a NEW, BLACK Fusion 125mW (That has BLOWN MY MIND wide open!!!)

Yeah, I agree. Yellow lasers look orange. I remember seeing tommygreen's pictures of his yellow laser. It's a mixture of orange, red and yellow (sligthly). _________________

I would want a yellow that would be dark yellow. But lemon lime or bluish green would be sweet. _________________ Play it like its a bass |

I think WL should produce yellows, IF IT'S COST EFFICIENT!
usually they're 300-400 dollars for 5mW... owch. Besides that, they're very inefficient, so, they'll suck batteries down.
Also, that's for the deep urine yellow. Only recently have they made good lemon yellow ones.
PS: it would be really fun to show that one to a friend though. Instead of HOLY CRAP, where did you get that!?! it would be HOLY CRAP, WHY did you get that? _________________

Yep, and considering a much larger, non-portable yellow laser at 30mW costs ~$2500, I'm sure people will be lining up to buy the 125mW portable . |

If anyone cares here is a 593.5nM yellow laser pointer for $299. Dunno about the quality though. |
I have bought some of these from CNI before and sold one here, might've sold one before too but my memory doesn't go back that far. My picture post somewhere shows how cool they can look with fog. Problem is if you're used to even the stability issues of greenies, these might piss you off. I try giving measurements on the green and red lasers I ship out, but it was impossible for these yellows. All of them I've had seem to easily jump between 0.5 and 2.5mW multiple times in a period of 60 seconds, and they're very temperature sensitive. There also is another very odd phenomenom with them that I've been meaning to post about for months, and hopefully will have up in the next week.
Overall though, its a great price for a very rare color. These lasers don't really serve much practical use, but they will definitely set you apart, and represent a very complicated DPSS process. Wicked is selling a 30W yellow lab for well into the thousands if I remember correctly, and >5mW PGLs are $600+ I think, so at the price these are pretty cool, though you're definitely not going to be lighting matches with 1mW.
One last comment is that though 593.5nm lasers are called yellow, every person I've showed one to without naming the color says its orange, and I have to agree with them. Its an orange-yellow IMO as opposed to a yellow or yellow-orange color.
EDIT: And if anyone is interested in one of these at a little cheaper than WickedLasers, I have two new ones I'm interested in liquidating to anyone with a reasonable offer. (mods feel free to delete this comment if necessary) |
