I bought a pheonix 2 weeks ago, and decided to get some of those red covers. Well, it must have gotten airlocked because when i tried to remove it, i ended up twisting the thing apart just enough to break the seal, voiding the warranty i am sure. BE CAREFUL!!! You dont even realize you are doing it until its done. BTW, this beam doesnt shine for 26 miles. maybe a mile at the most. _________________ "No matter where you go, there you are." |

Simpleman, I should have mentioned that when you try and remove the little rubber caps, dont just grab it and start pulling. Use your fingernail to pry up the edge of the cap and work it off. This will prevent putting any tension on the end of the laser unit.
As for the distance, its not supposed to shine 26 miles. If you read the specs closely, it says thats the distance from which somebody can see the laser if it is being pointed AT them. So, your friend would be able to see the green light from your laser from 26 miles away if you were pointing it straight at him. The dot iteslf is only visible for a few miles or so when pointing at night. _________________ WL 125mW Fusion @ 110mW

anybody can find something like a good quality round flat glass and stick it inside the laser cap witha special glues, i was thinking of using screw tightening glue, they come in red and will not make fumes inside like those instance bonding glues... I just cannot find that kind of clear glass in hardware h/w stores.... that's the difficult part. _________________ Fusion Owner 2006-03-27 |

Hey everyone, I found the caps at lowes.
The top right corner says "Soft touch - by Waxman"
These are actually chair tips, 1/2" size.
Hope this is help to somebody as I couldn't find them for the longest time. They fit snuggly so I got two packs.
They're black so I'll have to put something white on the inside to make sure it doesnt melt.. _________________

http://www.capsnplugs.com/Catalogue/pdfDocs/vinylProducts/vinylProduct s_pg57.pdf -Canadian company (I think), apparently they do free samples as well, or so it say at the bottom of that PDF.
http://www.component-force.co.uk/Round%20Caps.htm -British company. Best size is the 12.7mm. They have any length/colour and you can choose between vinyl or PVC. Only problem is the minimum order is around £40 plus VAT (derratte got 6 for $1 so that's something like 55p in the UK, so without the VAT of 17.5% you got 432 caps for £40) which is a lot to spend on rubber caps but maybe Steve could buy loads and supply them with lasers. |

lol I use those red caps all the time when laying out pipes when installing air conditioners. I use them when i have to pass the pipes through a hole i make through the wall. it prevents dirt from entering the pipes. Works good for these lasers too i guess. _________________

I dunno how you guys couldn't find these caps on google but I found loads instantly:-
http://www.stockcap.co.uk/stockcap_silicon_and_rubber_products.html
http://www.mocap.co.uk/?ref=gppc
http://www.dbiplastics.com/
These are just a few, for loads more just search for rubber caps on eBay. Also, maybe we could see some new ideas for caps or even customisations to these rubbers caps or other caps just like the toothpaste cap!
I seriously recommend stockcap.co.uk as they have the hanging caps (great to put your laser on a keychain), vented caps to allow gas to escape, square headed caps and even caps with a tab on the end to make it easier to pull off! They also have custom made caps for those who want to go all out in protecting your laser.
NB: You can also get the caps in EDPM, silicone, PVC and other plastics which will handle higher temperatures and will be tougher to melt than with the normal vinyl caps. |

| OK, keep finding more and more out about these. Most companies only sell in bulk on the net but then again most offer free samples. For me the best one is now that Canadian site. Also, these things are properly named ferrules. |

| I haven't found any sites that sell singles really, they all ask you to ring up or email for a quote so I don't think any of them do online payments. The best bet is to just go into a small local hardware store because they'll now what you're after. I checked online with B&Q (www.diy.com) and they don't seem to have any. The bigger the company the smaller the chance of finding some I spose. You can also get mesh made from plastics and it's usually used on compressed O2 bottles and are supposed to protect them, I don't see how but the mesh could be good for lasers. |

This is a great idea! I ran down to the local Ace Hardware and got one for $.39 that fits perfect. Thanks for the tip.
