I think your mouse has just red led. However, there is laser mouses too, but they are more expensive, and probably even do`t have very powerful diodes.
I guess most other places where laser diodes are used, are low powered too. DVD burned is easily your best bet for cheap high-powered diode. |

The red led in MY optical mouse is more orange than a 650nM dvd burner diode. I shined it against it just to compare. The dvd diode is more of a cherry and the led is a very slightly orange tomato. _________________ MMM I got a fusion. Amazing.

the optical "mice" seem to be lasers...(hurts when shined in eye)
and the Laser "mice" are invisible (IR?)

Ive dissected both..
the laser mouse uses an IR laser. you can see the light by looking inside. its a small red dot, but its so low powered, i wouldnt worry about it damaging your eyes. its not useful to open, plus theyre expensive..
an optical mouse is just a red LED, ive changed them out for blue and yellow. also, dont bother... _________________ Cant put the brand name for some dumb reason 532nm - 100-120mw
Nope! Cant post this one either 200mw 665nm - On the way!
Not even the name of the 5mw 532nm - On the way! (Planned for IR burner. Crystals to be removed)

Low power, they only get interesting when they're old, I have a 2.30mw HeNe laser out of one. |
