My dad just came home from China (He Lives There).
And he had this little aluminium box he gave to me (after some days home, he just found it in the luggage ) He gives it to me, I open, and, a pen, great, I needed a pen for school xD
And I press the button, and it turns out to be one of the combined pen, redkeychain 1mW lasers, and a flashlight.
But what is special with this, is its 'N3ROWN3D!' quality, the lens is scrathed like h***, and its rather shabby.
But the laser itself, is OVERPOWERED
I almost wet myself when I saw the beam! I can see a faint, faint beam in daylight, when its pointed at me tho At a distance of 2-3 metres, when pointed at me in faint lit conditions, I can see a beam! Quite faint, and its a lot of help with dust, but, you shouldt see a beam even when its dust
In total dark, the beam is visible! The dust particles in the air ofcourse helps a lot, but.
I took it, and my Core to the skin, I didnt feel anything from the Core compared the the red!
Im sure its like 20 mW or something!

| Thats pretty strange because even 100mW red lasers dont have fully visible beams, and due to the red coloring inside your body red lasers usually can hardley be felt, I can't even feel my 150mW red at its most focused point. |

Yeah, my Pulsar clocks in at 173 mw and I can shine it point blank on my finger tip and not feel a thing... that's weird. You ought to try and take some pics and post them. _________________ Lasers are like potato chips - you can't have just one!
Nexus 95mw, Confirmed 173 mw Pulsar, , 131mw argon-ion laser, Core laser, and Signature Fusion 125mw, 100mw blue - average output 131mw - lab laser, and a 20 WATT (yeah you read that right!) CO2 laser!:

Yeah, ill take some pics
But thats strange
Its not like its BURNING to my skin, but yes, I can feel it, weak, very weak, but I feel it...
It have to be pointed AT me to see the beam, adn is must be dark tho :p
Its not FULLY visible as my Core, but the beam is visible, no doubt.
Its like 1/4 of my Core
But im not sure of the wavelenght, it doesnt look like 650 nm (Thats normal red?)
My camera pics it up as pink
And I would say it looks a littlebit orange sometimes
But that cant be, cant be 640 or sum, must have been exzpensive if it was then |

| Does it have a safety sticker on it saying what wavelength it is (Or is supposed to be)? |

I'd say it's only normal that you see the red beam when pointing towards you, even with a cheap laserpointer. Also think of the fact that not every eye is the same. There are sometimes people whose eyes are more sensitive to red than those from others - not much but slightly.
I also could see the beam of my cheap red laserpointer when it pointed towards me and that pointer had around 1mW and 650nm diode. Unfortunately I fried the diode while trying to get more power out of it. Right now I'm using this pointer with a red diode from an old defective dvd-rom, assuming it puts out around 5-7mW. It's a darker red - i guess something like 660nm - but when it is dark i can clearly see the beam, especially when pointing towards me but also when pointing away from me - but in this case (pointing away) you need to look close to the beam axis.
If there is a little cigarette smoke in the room, you can even see the beam in a dimly lit room, while the laser is pointing towards you.
According to what you said, I'd assume it is a 635nm diode with around 5mw. Those 635 diodes are amazingly bright compared to "normal" red diodes. I have a few 10mW 635nm diodes and they seem about half as bright as a pulsar 125. |

| I have a 240mw home built red and cant see it unless its dark out, and even then its nothing near what a 15mw-20mw green is like. |

Yes 650nm. I even have 635nm but not as powerful and even then being more visible its hard to see the beam. |

it could be a combination of things
1- cheap diodes like that have a very large difference in what wavelength they put out. you might have gotten lucky and the diode be a shorter wavelenght, say 640 or possibly even 635nm
2- your eyes may be more sensitive to the light
3- laser is over powered... I can't see it give any more then 20mW, but it's possible I guess... just extremely unlikely. Those button cells can only put out so much...
take a picture though, we want to see! _________________

I had 3 extra cell batteries, but, the batteries ran out of power after 2 minutes on, or something like that
Ill mod it so I take 6 batteries instead of 3...
Its possible that TheCheat is right, I may be very lucky, and that my eyes are sensitive to red light
My camera is too bad to get any pictures...
But Ill ask my brother, he has a REALLY good camera |

It could be a 635nm laser, the thing is that 635nm is way brighter than 650nm because 650nm is in a curve towards the end of the visible light spectrum.
And be careful with modding it, if you put in more batteries you'll probably need to build a proper driver board with resistors and possibly voltage regulators, you might want to add a capacitor to prevent the diode from frying when the batteries have power spikes.
I used to think that I could feel a red laser dot when it was pointed to me (I could feel the dot), I did an experiment and asked someone to shine the laser towards my face with my eyes closed and see if I could tell where the dot was, all my attempts to tell where the dot was failed, so it was just an illusion of feeling the laser dot and not a real feeling. _________________ >>Click here to go to my laser userbars site!<<
