Dirty Lens - i know EVERYBODY posts this, but mines differen

the lens always use to get dirt or rubbish and crap around the dot, and we would clean it simply by using lens paper on the end of a match in the end of the laser, and "polishing" the lens.
now we have this cross pattern and no ammount of cleaning or anything (metholated spirits) on the lens will fix the pattern.
we have not dropped the laser on any occasion
could dirt/dust have found its way into parts of the laser BEHIND the end lens?
or are the cystal's have come out of allignment?
is this worth sending back to china - will they fix it, or will they replace a laser with a pattern
