Hey Folks,
Last week I got my Wicked laser which is supposed to be 90mw, according to the label on the end. But, I can't make the thing burst balloons. Not a biggie since I'm satisfied with all else about it but since some other lasers show ads doing this I'm wondering why mine won't do it' Maybe the balloons I have are too thick. I could try using condoms. Would that be cheating? Or, maybe they aren't blown up tight enough. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance...........Spaced |

| From what I have read here, a darker colour (blue and black) is recommended. Also, the more air in the balloon, the thinner the wall and the easier it will be to burst it. Same goes for lighting matches with some of the stronger lasers... have to use darker match colours. Some have used a black marker to draw a target on a lighter coloured baloon which would otherwise reflect much of the light. |

For you balloon poppers try this: I have a 75mW Wicked Laser. I can pop a "regular" black balloon at 44 inches. I can pop one at 72 inches (6 feet) and more by doing this.
1- Fully inflate the balloon. Notice that as it expands it gets "less black" and a bit grey as it stretches. This "greying" allows some light to be reflected thus allowing some heat to be reflected rather than absorbed.
2- Use a black Bic type ink marker (not a ball point pen) to make a dime sized black "bullseye" on the inflated balloon.
3- Hold the Laser very steady and Zap the bullseye for 3-5 seconds or so. You will be poping balloon at much longer distances than ever before. This makes for a very impressive demonstration.
I'm doing this with AAA 1000ma rechargeable NiMH batteries. Higher voltage Lithium AAA's may do even better. I've only had my laser for a couple of days so I haven't had the time to test all power options yet. NOTE. The Lithium's put out 1.6 volts and my rechargeables put out 1.2 volts. Without further testing I don't know if the laser requires volts or amps to deliver maximum power.
I would be interested to see your balloon popping results on this thread. Good Luck. |

| I still cannot break the ballons and I supposedly have a 90 mw Wicked Laser. I'll try your methods here and see what happens. The battery thing could easily be my problem. I have Rayovac batteries but I am using some out of a bargain pack. It's 15 to the pack and cost $3.99. So they could be inferior batteries. Everything else about this laser is totally awesome. I was walking with my wife last night and pulled it out (the laser) and it threw a bright, BRIGHT, spot on a very tall pine tree that was a quarter of a mile away. In daylight it puts a spot as far as I can see with binoculars. It works well in every way that I could want it to except the balloon bursting thing which I can live without if I have to. Thanks for the good info, I'm going to try it as soon as I finish my McBreakfast. |

| Definitely get rid of the Rayovac batteries. Buy the Energizer E2 Lithiums and you will be surprised how much brighter it will be. |

Where can you find the 1000 mah AAA batteries. The most powerful ones that I've found listed
were 750 mah and I cannot even find anywhere around my town that sells those. I've heard Walmart
had them but I have not had time to go out there yet. Got to watch the Richmond race right now. But
let me know what make and brand or whatever these batteries are so I will know what to look for. I
did buy some new Energizer Max AAA's today but they are not any more powerful than the Rayovacs or
thats the way it looks. Thanks in advance, as usual. |

Hey jv3006,
I don't know why I'm hung up on bursting balloons but I seem to be. Anyhow, the best I could find around here
in AAA batteries is the Lithium e2 and they still won't break balloons. So, I ordered the 1000's that you showed me
about in your email. Meanwhile I found some 1150 mah AAA alkalines at another online site and I'm trying a pack of
those to just see what they will do. Since they are the most powerful I've seen I kinda want to see if that
makes a dif in my Wicked 90. I know that the alkalines are a oneshot thing but it will be worth it just to see
what, if anything, the laser will do with those. Thanks for the battery tips. I'll let you know how it turns out. |

| your using a dark baloon riight? also your using a cheap dollar store balloon right? your also inflating the ballon so that it is pretty close to poping. if its not inflated enough, light colored, or dark colored the light just can pass through it rather easily (purple one's usually) or if the balloon itself is too far away then chances are your laser will not pop it. try all the things i listed above and hopefully you will see something spectacular. |

| I think that I see part of my problems. The balloons that I'm using are colored and are fairly thick and heavy. They came from Target. Also I don't have them blown up as tight as they could be. What I've been doing is blowing them up sort of tight and painting a black spot on them with a magic marker and then lasering. I'll try some dark, cheap balloons tomorrow and see what happens. Doing that, in combination with the 1150 mah batteries when I get them should do the trick. Thanks again and I'll keep you all posted. |
