What is the output on the 95mw Nexus.....greater than or less than 95mw? Can anyone else with this model burn stuff...pop ballons...ect? As much as my 5mw modded Z- Bolt impressed me{'till it died} I can hardly wait to see this monster!!

I spoke to the Z-Bolt guys a while back (a year ago) and found them less than helpful and their responses were blunt, even when I explained that my interests were for a professional application. They also rarely replied to emailed enquieries. From memory, they were using modded Leadlights for a while (I may be wrong but I seem to remember seeing pics of them at Z-Bolt). They did have some OEMs although I note that they still looked like Leadlights until they got those bulky GPL III (sp?) models in. But on the reply I got, there was a caution that their lasers needed a lot of cooldown time between bursts and they were only recommended for short activation periods of about ten to thirty seconds due to overheating. Modded Leadlights are notorious for unusual power fluctuations. I have modded one myself which will offer mixed output. I thought about the Chagchun GPL III (sp?) but the fact that they emply three safety mechanisms plus a 2 second beam activation delay turned me right off them. These safety measures are to allow them to sell bulk to the USA without FDA concerns but in reality, it seems to be to stop idiots from doing stupid things at the expense of crippling the devices... which in turn seem to use heavy D-Cell batteries. The size compared to say a typical Wicked Laser is considerable.
The NEXUS is supposed to be <95mW which means "not greater than". However, many lasers seem to output slightly above the stated values. As for beamstrength, it's VERY powerful and bright. Since you're familliar with <5mW pointers, there's a MASSIVE difference when you compare the NEXUS to a typical green pointer. You can see a photographic comparison on my laser gallery (see below) between a <25mW pointer and the NEXUS. In a smokeless room in lowlight or outdoors at dusk, the green beam itself is still hard to see on the pointers around <5mW but crystal clear on the NEXUS. Smoke up the room slightly or use them on a day with a little smoke, smog, fog, ocean spray etc and then you can see just how different the beamstrength is. The pointer is faint yet visible and the NEXUS beam is bold, bright and striking... seemingly dozens of times brighter in beam alone. The brightness of the dot is another matter altogether. You simply can't look at the dot from the NEXUS (it's too bright on light coloured surfaces) and probably shouldn't do so without safety goggles.

Thanks Nero _D......that's what I was looking for. I believe the Z-Bolt 5mw I have is also a "Leadlight" When I first recieved it about 3 years ago, it worked great and had a nice looking beam. I had never had a 532nm so I was impressed. Then I read on thier website that I could have it "Modified" so I sent it to someone else(Not Z-Bolt) as per thier instruction, Turned out to be "I Fix Lasers" anyhoos.....when I got it back it was in fact visually brighter but, It had 2 very distinct beams! Sent it back again and it came back for the third time looking slighty brighter than it did when I first sent it. After considerable usage...I started to tinker with it and adjusted potentiometer to the point where it was at it's brightest, but still activated by it's own button. If you held the tiny screwdriver on the pot while holding the activation button down it would get MUCH brighter, but would not reactivate whith it's own button unless you turn pot back down. I played with it quite a bit...set it at it's brightest and left it alone finally. It's lifespan was very short......2 or 3 hundred hours at best. Lots of fun to xperiment with.....can't wait see the Nexus!! best wishes Chargerman [/img][/url]

Hi All,
this is a question that also has made me to think a lot...
However, generally the label of a laser indicates the maximum output power, so as 80mW means an effective out power <80mW. For this i agree with "nero design".
Anyway today i read here a post of "Nexus" saying that "IE a 95mW will produce AT LEAST 95mW @ 532nm." that is an opposite answer...
However, i think that one thing is the label, another is the specification. WickedLaser gives the guarantee a 95mW gives at least an output power of 95mW. Probably its label will indicate <100mW... However i've not a wickedlaser, so this last is only supposition.
