95mW pointer here, and my findinds are that fully charged 1.2v 1000mah nimh's ARE initially brighter in my pointer for about 5 seconds, then the beam dulls down.. But the good old 1.5v duracell's seem to give out a constant beam without any dimming.. But for the first 5 seconds with the 1000mah nimhs the beam is noticeably brighter..
I'll try and get some pictures taken to show this.. |

Hi Nobby, you say that a 1000mA NiMh battery supply gives a brighter beam for the first 5''. Is this only a comparison with the rest of the battery lifetime or with Duracell batteries?
Finally, after these 5'', how is the brightness, equal or smaller then the duracell?
Thank you very much! Bye bye |

the best batteries are Energizer e2 Lithium AAA Batteries. They have a power rating of around 1350 mAh and provide a powerful constant beam that only stops when the battery completely runs out - unlike other batteries where the beam slowly dims as the battery slowly dies.
Unfortunately, the lithium batteries are non-rechargeable and you should get around 3.5 hours use with a 75mW laser. |

Hi Hyparzero, i reply here even if this is not pertinent to this post subject: can you tell me if you can succeed in igniting a match with your 75mW? I'm Buying a 70mW but i wonder if....
Thanks... Bye |

i've got to admit, i have never got a match to light, not even with new batteries and with a distance of 1 cm |

| I saw images of someone's <55mW laser burning a trashbag. <70mW is VERY strong and quite a few people claim that they can put holes in thin black plastic bags with them. A lot of experiments done with this type of laser usually have it securely clamped which increases the heat at the bright termination spot (due to lack of movement). Be sure to use dark coloured matches or dark coloured (and tightly inflated) balloons when doing such experiements... or mark them with a black marker. Avoid the reflected light with your eyes. I think the objects need to be within a couple of feet of the laser aperture to benefit from the tightness of the beam up close. Most of the burning effects appear to have been achieved with slightly stronger lasers in most online examples. Usually over <100mW. But I have no doubt that a lesser strength beam of around >70mW may burn slightly though if the beam is tightly focussed. That would require clean optics and fresh suitable batteries. |
