I have recently purchased a 105mW laser but have not recieved it yet. So I was wondering what is the maximum distance to stand and be able to light a match or pop a ballon?

You fill be able to pop balloons at a much greater distance then lighting matches.

Matches tend to need to be within 1 foot or so to light, though people have varying results..this depends on the matches used. Sometimes you need to have the match closer, while on certain matches you might be able to light them a bit further then a foot away. Note however that you will need to blacken the tip of the match with a marker to get them to light.

For poping balloons, you might be able to do this from about 3-5 feet away, again with varying results. The distance will depend on the balloon used, how opaque it is, how inflated it is, etc.

cool thanks.

But what does blackening the tip of a match do? Does it make the match head absorb more light and energy?

Yes, darkening the match tips cause the match head to absorb more of the light energy, thus heating it up much more.

Hey Dojimacu,
That all depends on YOUR ingenuity! I have popped balloons at 14+ feet with my Nexus by using external lens'! If you did not order protective eyeware for that 105mw.....you need to Exclamation Shocked Most of the "Up-Close" experiments will be dangerous with that smok'in 105mw! Very Happy CD
