Hello all,

An idea I had for a "haunted forest" spookhouse I help with. Suspending a baloon filled with hydrogen. burst baloon with a fusion and coll. lense. With an ignition source near by, such as a hot surface SiNi igniter @ 2300c, I know would be smashing, but what if there were no exteral source, only the heat generated by the fusion. Any ideas? I used a really cool system of a saftey valve and an ignition system, and it was stunning.....

That's a cool idea, only way to find out is by experimentation. Twisted Evil

I doubt H would ignite, it has to combine with O at elavated temps to burn which cannot be provided by your laser. Flammable gas needs a hot source of ignition like a flame or spark.

Correct, it's highly unlikely that the laser would produce enough heat for ignition but the igniter you mentioned should do great. Be sure to place the igniter above where the balloon will pop so that as the lighter-than-air hydrogen gas rises, it will go up in flames! Very Happy
