Hey everyone, I got my laser today. My first impressions were:
It is a very bright red laser and my first >100mW laser. The package was warm from being in the UPS truck so I let the laser cool down bfore using it. With my experience using lasers, mainly pointers, they all behave differently whith temperature. For example, when my Pulsar is cool (around 73* or so) the spot is much tighter because of the changed focal length of the collimating lens (expansion & contraction). This lens is either acrylic or plain glass. The spot expands and looks fatter when it is warmed from being held in my hand. I think this is why some of you can pop a ballon at 40ft because the laser is cold and the spot is more precisely focused. So I encourage you all to experament with your Pulsar and find it's sweet spot and temp.

As for the laser, I love it. I have burned through a Radio Shack bag so far. I do not have any balloons to play with yet nor matches for that matter. Tonight I shall have fun with it outside. I'll get you all some photos in a few days.

Have fun,

-Todd

Timelord: Pulsar master! Laughing

Glad you're liking the pulsar..first thing I did with it was burn through a radioshack bag too! One thing I'd do is look around for a cheap magnifying glass or something else with a little lense and make it attatchable to the end of the pulsar so you can focus it smaller, that's the only way to light matches and burn certain things.

Make sure to be extra careful...the dimness of it compared to a 100mW can be deceiving, but it's just as dangerous if not more because of the wider beam diameter.

Yeah I have a large magnifier and have played some. I definately will be careful with this laser since it is so strong. How long have you had yours? I'll just make sure that I don't put lithiums in it. I would love to have a 100mW red at 635nm, it would appear five time brighter at any power. Anyway I am having fun with it so far and I want to see it at night.

I places a magnifying glass in front of the laser and focused it to a tiny point and I see smoke coming from wood, that was cool! It did the same on black plastic and rubber.

That would be nice! I'll keep my eyes out for a foggy night to try the laser in it. I have the 25mW green ones and they do great in the fog, this Pulsar is definately bright.

Have a good evening.....Todd

Hey Anakata, did you have a Pulsar at one time? I bet in six months the price comes down some. They will also imrove them. Thanks for stopping by my post.

A focusing mirror(aka...womens make-up mirror) also works wonders with a Pulsar Exclamation I have three....one side is a normal mirror, the other side is a magnifying mirror. Using all three....2 regular and 1 magnified I can light matchs...pop balloons from many tens of feet away! They are quite fun to xperiment with. Best Regards Dale
