i have an idea, for the spyder it has such amazing power right
and sadly the beam is also quite wide
well kill 2 birds with one stone
make a clip/seal/glue/whatever they decide on adjustable colimator
focus the beam down to a pinpoint or up to a huge bright beam
everyone is happy
spyder becomes just a notch more usefull

even better
have a clip on that has 2 rings, or rather 2 models, one for colimating, and the other for both colimating and focusing
the second model will have a lense that can be used to change the focus of the laser so ultimatley it becomes one of th emost versatile laser toolsyou can buy.

steve could make theese for pretty cheep if he found a good lense source, th eactual device would be incredibly simple

I believe the Spyders originally had adjustable focus, however it would do nothing to make the collimated beam diameter smaller then the initial beam diameter leaving the laser.

The adjustable focus is a good idea though, but should be an add on, as built in it may comprimize the water resistance of the laser...which is why it was taken out(I think).

There aren't any threads, however there is about an inch and a half(or so) of very smooth metal that an add on can slide right over, perhaps the add on can have some sort of adjustment to tighten it to this part.
