Yes chime, i read this the other day in my local paper. Im hoping the guy makes them to sell...he uses a mercury bulb and loads of batteries.
He reckons it would burn a dog alive if you shined it close to it. 
$900 to make...thats actually quite cheap

I read about this recently! I think in popular science. Anyways, he should put a giant magnifying glass over it... See what it can really burn... Anyways shouldn't this be in the "flashlight" section?

| actually, no it doesnt beat the torch. On candle power forums he has a thread about it and it was 4006.5 lumens. So its probably better focused but not as much actual brightness. |

it seems like its just an extremely efficient flashlight, whereas the torch is extremely inefficient, that is why it can burn. It uses most of the energy and converts it into heat, not light (the Torch does).
The torch is really quite fun, i almost like it better than my fusion/evo! Nah, idk... its hard to tell. I can melt just about anything, the only dissadvantage is the fact that it has no beam etc.
