A laser diode from a DVD Rom drive is not the same as the laser diode in a Blu-Ray Player or Burner.
If it is just a DVD-Rom and not a DVD Recorder, the laser diode will be <5mW 650nm red. If it's a DVD-Recorder then you can get a 150-200mW+ 650nm red laser diode out of it.
You will need a Blu-Ray Player or recorder in order to get a 405nm violet laser diode. The player will once again have a low output diode and the recorder will have a much more powerful one. _________________ Cheers,

You would need a driver board for the laser diode, a power source (batteries most likely, a collimating lens and a housing to hold everything together.
You can either make your own housing, if you have the means to do so, or you can use a pre-existing housing such as those small LED flashlight cases. _________________ Cheers,
