| I want to make an IR laser sight that will create a visible with gen2+ NVD gear. I don't want it to be to powerful or dangerous just to create a visible(with NVD that is) dot out to maybe say 50 yards. I don't want any visible spectrum light emission. I was hoping I could somehow modify the cheap red or green laser sights on the market to emit just IR or any other idea that with keep it small enough and low power enough to be mountable. Any opinions on how possible this is or suggestions on how to go about it? Looking to keep build costs less than 150 USD if possible. |

Well, you could do that with the diode from a green laser.
Without the crystal cutting the wavelength in half, the diode emits a 1064nm beam, which is well into the IR range. |

I would look into some of WLs competitors, they sell IR lasers relatively cheap and they just might have what you are looking for. Or, you could wait a little while for the Stealth series :) (then a little while after that until they actually ship, haha, just kidding..) _________________ "There is no dark side of the moon, its all dark really..." Yes, coupled to a night vision scope they are truly awesome, beam width stops being an issue, they are magnificent in that role! |

Is there a specific reason you wouldn't just use IR to illuminate the target and thus enable you to use optics for targeting? You'd have a lot more flexibility, especially at such a close distance. An LED would work really well in that case. You could use a projection type lense and illuminate a very narrow aspect of the target.
Two leggeds or 4? If two, stay away from any active stuff, they will see it too. |
