A gamma laser would be tremendious for medical radiotherapy fighting cancer in the brain. We have today the "Gamma Knife" which in fact is about 100-200 individual "sourches" directing the radioation into the brain, such that all beams converges in a certain point (the cancer tumor).
A "gamma laser" would be the next generation of radiation therapy as the whole point is to reduce the beamwith as narrow as possible. |

Gamma radiation might have use in cancer treatmeant, but thats about it. Gamma radiation is very harmfull because it penetrates through surfaces. Since it is of such low wavelength, it takes a very thick object to slow it down, so gamma radiation can affect the inside of your body as well as the outside. And also, something about it is very cancerous. But you won't turn into the hulk either .
Here is a chart of how high gamma radiation is compared to normal light we can see: http://www.aaronsklar.com/aaronsklar/scienceclasses/sci10/Weather_Dyna mics/light_Spectrum.jpg |

It destroys DNA causing mutations which can become cancerous. |

| Gamma radiation cannot be bent by optics like visable spectrum light, so you can't really do that much with it. From a medical perspective the converging streams of gama radiation are probably better. Very rarely do you want to kill something in a straight line through the body, and unlike visable and near visable light the Gamma radiation will pass through the target tissue and damage other tissue long before it does enought damage to the target to be worth it. |

The use of lasers for nuclear physics research is widespread and growing rapidly. As an additional, lasing without inversion is possibly the only way to obtain highly efficient X-ray and gamma-ray lasers, which are important for their practical uses in areas such as industrial, scientific, military and medical instruments. _________________ endovenous laser therapy |
