I am thinking about getting a tech or wicked laser that is 95-125 mw... Will this damage peoples eyes around me if they do not have proper glasses? And if the beam was shined far distance and hit someone by accident could it damage their eyes?

it can damage their eyes but if the laser have ir filter you shouldn`t worry a lot. And for the people in the distance eye damage can happen if you point them for a lot of seconds in the eye

NOT TRUE

IR is a risk, but at power levels like 95mw it is NOT safe! For lsers above 5mw, you should have safety glasses, just for the good habit. But at about 20 times that power level, they are absolutely necessary. A reflection or a careless glance in the beam by you or bystanders causes practically instant eye damage. That is, way faster than you ever can react. You may know where you point your laser, but reflections can be unpredictable, and even more for other people. So, don't that that risk. The laser is practically instant dangerous for tens of meters (if not hunderds), so mind where you are pointing. It's a little pointer, it can swing around. and you don't wave around guns, and powerfull lasers need quite a lot of the same respect.

Both Wicked and Techlasers DPSS models all contain IR filters. The danger of IR is not factor when talking about them, in the case fo greens it's the 532nm output that is dangerous to look directly at (or off of a reflective surface).

If the beam is still collimated enough then even at a great distance it can damage someone's eyes. This is why it is important to make sure you are shining it where there is no chance of anyone to accidently get hit in the eyes by the beam. The farther away the safer it becomes, but the exact distance it becomes "safe" will vary from laser to laser of the same output due to slight differences in collimation and exact output.

I have a ELITE 150+ I dont always use goggles, been zapped in the eyes a few times, burning things, or reflection/bounce back.
I just went for annual eye exame and asked to be checked for IR damage, , The doc looked at me kinda strange, but I told him I had a couple of lasers, Anyway, all checked out good.
Always wear protection, It doesnt take much to screw up your peepers.

I've had a reflection from about a 60mw Phoenix in my eye, making the total distance about 30 feet. I now have a tiny and only sometimes noticeable, but permanent dot in my vision. Always wear safety goggles.

If it can pop a red balloon from a few meters without an external lens... imagine what it can do to your red/pink coloured tissue at the back of your eye when the beam passes through your eyes lens! Shocked

With these lasers the danger is with direct exposure to the beam and to the exposure of specular reflections (mirrors, glass, chromed metals, etc).

As long as you are not shining it directly into peoples eyes, or onto things that can generate a specular reflection, then you have nothing to worry about. When using a high powered laser (any laser that can cuase eye damage) make sure you are aware of what can cause a specular reflection or not. If you are even the slightest bit unsure, use goggles.
