It says here that the noise from the D40 is lower than the 400D but doesn't have as many advanced features as other SLR's....

I would have mega difficulty in deciding as well PopN. There are tons of reviews on these two out there so good luck.

thx for the link Nair, yer i know hard choice. Thought i would get some of your guys opinions. Everything i have read on the cameras its a very close call between them both. I was hoping someone might know something i dont. I would like to see what Nero has to say about them both

Yea....Nero is the man for this but I know he will say the canon.
To be honest, if I was to choose....the canon eos rebel would be the one I choose but then again lol

The noise differences between the models mentioned is so minimal that even a professional would be hard pressed to spot the difference. Noise reduction software is easy to obtain and use today as well.
Your range of available lenses is larger and less expensive on the Canon side. That's probably going to be your deciding factor if you enjoy photography.
And yes, I'd suggest the Canon. But if you are likely to just buy one or possibly two lenses, then either camera is VERY good.

im a canon user so maybe a bit biased. (i[ve got a 5D and a 350D and about 15 lenses)
but from a purely technical point of view it has to be canon for the simple fact that they make better lenses and when it comes down to it thats what matters.
if you watch any sport match you'll see tons of big white lenses with a red ring on the end (those are canon L's.) pros don't just choose a product for the sake of it, they choose the best. admitedly canon luxury lenses cost a lot (cheapest one is about $750) but even their consumer lenses are top notch.
if you do decide to go canon i'll give 1 tip.. don't get a kit with the 18-55 lens coz that lens is crap and get just the body and a 50mm 1.4 USM lens
(its an AWSOME lens, its relativly cheap (around the $250 mark) and the optics are on par with L's)
its my most used lens by far and i've got L's that cost ten times as much.
the 400D will produce better (more saturated) colours than the nikon.
the 400D is basicly the same camera as the 350D (a few little add ons like automatic dust removal from the sensor) the 350D is an awsome wee camera and as a 1st SLR you cant go wrong with it. |
