| With all the controversy with Australia banning lasers, a section for laser laws is in order. If we could have some resources on the laws in particular Countries, States, terrotries and provinces, as well as information on permits and licenses and where to get them, it could really help boost the profile of LC. Unfortunatly, due to "that" newspaper article, this forum has gotten a lot of bad press so this may help to change that. Thanks to Beatsiz for comming up with the idea in a different thread. |

The current state of LC profiles could be vastly improved. Instead of people just having KingK's laser userbars in their signiture, there could perhaps be a list of lasers they have in their actual box, left of ones post. Though I myself am not a huge emoticon (smilyfaces) user I do think that there could be more variety. Also, does LC have a logo? Is it that symbol next to the "Laser Community" at the top? If not, we should get a logo. The Rules and Regulations section is good and should not be changed much, if at all. But I do have a small feeling that many people never have read through them. If there was a way to make it more "obvious", I think that could fix many problems connected to breaking rules. Then news thread and review thread are also very good ideas, but the current "Off-Topic" thread shoud be split up into subtopics. It currently has more posts and topics than the "green lasers" section! That is all.

I have not posted on this forum for a while, especially after a major incident. You asked us to "speak our minds", so here I go:
I will not go into major detail about this incident, but it is important that I talk about it because it points out the major flaws of this site. The most important points are in bold.
Earlier, I posted a thread about a red DVD laser I made. I soon received a PM from a Laser Community member asking if I would sell him one of the red lasers. I knew about the rule against selling lasers, but I did not know that what we could say in Private Messages was not only controlled, but also censored/read by the staff. I never struck a deal with the member, and we were even talking about collaborating on making a laser (he made the case, I made the laser module, etc). I soon received a PM asking me to stop making sales on Laser Community. I was shocked that my PMs were being read, so I said something similar to "I'm sorry I broke the rules - I did not know I could not sell stuff through PMs. I promise I will stop. But I must say I am shocked that the staff reads others' Private Messages". I got a reply basically stating that they could do anything. I asked why they had the rule in place, and I got banned from the forum. While I was banned, the admin I was talking with deleted my correspondence with him (including his PMs calling me horribly rude names). I emailed Laser Community but I had no proof. Eventually I was unbanned. This is another major problem. People are banned way too much. I might not have been a valued member (only ~150 posts), but other members with 1000+ posts have been banned.
Maybe not having a "trade" section is a good idea, but let people do whatever they want to do in PMs!!! And the continuous threat of being banned will NOT help build a community.
More than a new section or more contests, this forum needs to take a good look at their attitude and style. I don't know anyone who enjoys a forum where admins insult members, ban them for asking a question about the rules, never apologizing after realizing they are wrong, and delete evidence of "problems"
I know this sounds very harsh, but I love this forum. I used to post very often, but this incident just killed my enthusiasm.
I really hope we can turn this forum around _________________

What do you guys think about about a wiki dedicated to lasers hosted on Laser Community? It will work exactly like wikipedia where users or members will be writing the articles. If any user has anything to add, they can edit the article. As suggested by jehu, we can include the laws and regulations on lasers for each country.
ghost, sorry to hear about your experience on Laser Community. I will do everything within my power to turn this forum around and I sincerely hope you can be part of the changes that are about to happen.
yathern, I agree, we do need to work on our profiles. What we have in mind so far is to allow users to create a myspace style profile customized for laser enthusiasts! That is, each member will have a public or private page where they can upload their biography, post pictures & videos, add their LC buddies, and possibly have a section where members are blog. When reading through the forum, simply clicking on the members name will bring you to the member's profiles.
We will implements changes slowly but surely so please be patient! Meanwhile, keep these excellent suggestions comin'! We really appreciate your input. |

A wiki would be good but I do wonder about the possibility of malicious editing, especially in regards to laser laws. I think that certain areas of the wiki, like the laws section, should be strictly moderated to prevent any wki-vandalisim.
Also wiki software isn't the eaisest to use or understand. Maybe a nicer PHP based interface could be made. Anyone here a PHP code monkey? |

A wiki would be a great idea! And to prevent "vandalism" of the wiki by editing it poorly, perhaps it could be tied in with LC, so that you can only edit the wiki if you have 150+ posts or something else similiar.
I was also banned, but for a very valid reason. I was PM-ing my ref code to people. People did it to me first, so I thought it was OK. But, all is well . |

| You should allow banned users to read the forums. I can understand not allowing banned users to post (duh!), but I don't think banning people from reading the forums is necessary. |

How do we know askdave isn't really someone working for Wicked Lasers?
I find it hard to believe that this forum will ever truly be independent of Wicked Lasers. Currently this forum is just a marketing tool for Wicked Lasers and I don't see why they would just give that up. You aren't even allowed to talk about other brands than Wicked Lasers. |

| Actually the laser forums I use are independent of laser companies. This forum is only for discussing wicked/tech lasers. |

I and plenty of others can follow rules, if you cant follow rules then you get banned. How hard is that to understand or participate in. You only signed up to spew off your opinion because you cant obviously follow rules.
I wouldnt doubt one bit that your behind proxy and have been banned from here and now your on yet another account acting like a spoiled kid because of it. _________________ Spyder II GX, BX

Yeah- he definately got banned on another account.
I think we should also have different moderators. Or wait... Let me rephrase that- I think we should get more mods. But not too many- On some forums they have like 50 mods and thats just unnecesary, but, it couldn't hurt to have 3/4 more. This way, chances are that at least one will be on at a time. I think it would just be better for LC. |

I would like a community where we can freely discuss ALL lasers, and their manufacturers. Wicked Lasers once sold a type of laser that is now only offered by 'other companies,' and now it seems quite a few people can not discuss that brand. It is not a "LASER Community" when discussion of certain Lasers are prohibited....
Company Names
Posting of laser company names and their accompanying products other than those approved by Laser Community are strictly prohibited. Laser company names beside Wicked Lasers, Laser Pointer, techlasers, and Starphaser should be posted in a generic manner such as “another laser company.”
This board is, therefore, not for fans of lasers, but merely for promotion of the above listed companies. As a fan of any product, people like to get ideas about what laptop, cell phone, camera, stereo, etc.. is the best, through shared experiences/reviews from others. Instead of a forum that is (seemingly) afraid of the competition, I, myself, would much greater support and frequent one that was open to ALL discussion, so laser enthusiasts can make the best decision based on their budget without the fear of getting banned from that board.
People should go to a forum for what they enjoy and what they are interested in, not something with so many guidelines that they are only being exposed to 20% or less of the total laser market.
All the above is my opinion, I am not one to tell someone how something should be handled, but my opinion is being asked for here, so there it is.
