This isn't really a technical question I just want to know if I'm right.

The dot on my 75mw laser pointer is distorted. When pointing it there seems to be an "X" that crosses through my dot. It's not a clearly defined X rather 3 or 4 lines on each crossing.

Does this sound like a scratched lens? I don't think a dirty lens would produce such a dot. I have yet to pick up a microfiber cloth to clean with

Any reply would be great. Thanks

Post a picture if possible. And cleaning it with such a cloth could be useful, it migt just be dust.

Welcome to the forum N.M.....That does sound like a dirty lens. Clean it very gently with a MICROFIBER cloth.

It coud be your laser in different TEM modes, from keeping your laser on too long.

Just wondering: ow could having your laser on too long cause mode hopping? Anyway, a picture still is the best. It could be anything from dirt to a damaged coating.

Definately sounds like either a dirty lens or mode hopping. The easiest to fix is cleaning the lens by the mentioned methods. Mode hopping is not so easy to resolve.

Leaving the laser on for too long can cause mode hopping as the temperature of the crystals rise.
