No not extremely hard. I've got some chinese USB cable that can recharge my PSP (USB 2.0, 5V) The output current is really low on this as it takes ages to recharge my device.
Then use the first step of this only shorter (use a smaller screw, make sure you use a magnet) and put the wire connected to the spring to the outside of the DC and the other one to the inside. Use a insulated single strand iron wire.

| yeah you won't get power from a para port, it'll have to be usb. I'd take an old usb cable and chop it, wire the black to the spring (could be tricky, you may have to cut the case down a bit if you can't reach), and the red to the case. Just scratch the casing a bit first to expose some bare metal. If the pointer takes 3 batteries which they usually do, that's 4.5v so i can't see 5v killing it.
