|
I scavenged the laser from a DVD burner to make a burning device for a larger project -- with less-than-spectacular results.
I'd like to try it again, but I'm not interested in paying $30 for a DVD burner just to trash 99.9% of it.
And still not know what I'm doing.
Even if I can't find an LED without buying the rest of the burner, it's even more important to learn what voltage & maximum current I should apply to it (I expect they're all pretty standard - 5.6mm dia.). Even though they make zillions of them, I can't seem to find how to buy just the LED.
I'm satisfied with the focusing lens I have.
Anyone have ideas? Part numbers? Knowledge? Poke fun at me for being so naive? |

These diodes are operating @ 2.5V and 130 mA.
I sent you a link where you can find the bare diode.
I have bought a laser there... it did not arive till now but I think it should come in the next few days _________________ green 3~8mw ebay laser

Just one quick comment:
A LED is NOT a laser diode.
If you try and use an LED you will be severely disappointed because they are not culminated nor focused as a laser diode is.
A LED is a diode, but a diode is not necessary an LED. This is the same as how a square is a rectangle, but not all rectangles are squares. _________________ Green: 5mW Core + 35mW Executive + ''''130mW'''' (86.28mW tested) EnVee

true. if my electronic tech classes paid off, then a normal diode is simply a one-way gate. a vast majority of diodes don't even emit light (like AuroraAlpha said) _________________ Nexus >114mW (probably the best Nexus known to man)*SOLD*

true. i bought 5 140mW diodes for $59 (about 12 bucks each ) _________________ Nexus >114mW (probably the best Nexus known to man)*SOLD*

| You can buy 650nm "closed can" 5.6mm diodes in collimating housings that are capable of 300mW for around $28. I'm just not sure if I can say the name of the place here... |
