Hi all,
i'm wondering wich optical parts would be suitable for combining two laser beams:
i want to mix green and blue laser beams (or red & green) into a single beam, with high precision.
Is a prism suitable for this?

i can't see HOW.
i don't want to CROSS the two beams. I want them to be originating from the same point. or in other word, to mix them in a single beam |

Ok i read it.
So a square dichroïc prism does the job. nice. it confirms was i thought:
a beam SPLITTER can be a beam MIXER: it only depends where the source light comes from.
now i know were to get one: in a DVD-burner optical block |

Did anyone else attempted to do additive synthesis with two different lasers?
There is many ways in fact, just wanna know wich would work the best. maybe an RGB prism is the most efficient way? |

I have attempted to do additive synthesis with my pulsar and a 5mW greeny. The result is a fantastic orange. Blue + green will make... blue-green XD
And yes using dichros is the best way to overlap the beams. |

Yeah, simple mirrors alone won't be any help.
Whether you use dichroic mirrors, prisms, etc. you're gunna spend a lot of time getting the balance and alignment right, but its a commonly used technique to achieve full white-light (RGB) laser projectors. Dichro's are the way to go whether it be mirrors or prisms - if you're looking for the utmost of precision and efficiency though, be prepared to shell out the big bucks to high quality optics companies. If you just want to play around you can try getting by with one of those cubes from DVD players. |
