HD DVD uses a 405nm right? so i could potentially pull a blu ray diode out of this?

I believe HD DVD is around 415nm, while Blue-Ray is 405nm. I could be wrong as it was awhile since I've researched it, but it would explain the Blue-Rays higher capacity. Either way you get a violet laser out of it. Wink

415nm would be more visible (assuming I'm correct on the HD DVD wavelength).

Why not get a PHR 803T diode?
