Hello. I need to get a low powered infrared laser. Does anyone know about any electronic device that uses one? The problem that I have is that they dont sell them in my country and I cannot order it because shipping is expensive and unreliable. I have no other choice but to extract the laser from some electronic device. Less than 1 miliwatt would ok. The closer the wavelenght is to 1000 nanometers the better. I really need one... so can anyone help me?

Thanks...

A CD/DVD drive (not a burner - just a reader) has one

yup all cd players/writers have an IR laser in them, readers are only around 1-2 mw output while writers are alot higher depending on the write speed. All IR lasers have a small red glow to them so you know when they are on.

DO NOT confuse this for a dull/defective red as you might damage your eyes!

Typically you would find these types of diodes lasing at around 808nm. Is that close enough?
