Can anyone please help me or give some advice or a better schematic?
I built the schematic show on boomdog's site for controlling the galvos via a audio input, but its not working, the galvo's just stay in one position and the weirdest thing is i can hear the music coming from the galvo's, it's faint but they seem to be acting as speaker. Or i just happen to have huanted galvo's.
Any advice?????????????????

sounds like you're not pumping enough power into them to make them start deflecting, you should try getting an amplifier to get some more power to the galvos

Well the galvos are 5V and im using 9V. The circuit also has two 20V capaciters infront of the galvos, so i dont think power is a problem. but il try bumping the current up to 14V and see what happens.
Thanks

Don't..you might ruin them. If you are using the same galvos as I used, 5V should be more than enough. I've used them for both X/Y scanning (with 9/2V, 4.5V each) and audio input with no problems. If I adjusted the volume on the amp too high, they would just flip over 360/8 degrees to the next set of coils. I'm not sure how many v's I was giving them at that moment, but it was obviously too much Smile

Ah, I didn't see your replies before now. I'm without Internet at the moment (well, not right now, borrowing from some friends), so I haven't been able to check this site thoroughly for a while.

I've recently moved, so all I have access to at this moment is my Phoenix, all of my other laser stuff is at home..including the plans.

Anyway, I recall the plans for the audio scanner was to be found on Ebay, from a guy selling galvos. Not sure if they are for sale any longer..try a search for "galvo" or something, you might find it. If not, I can do a scan of the plans and upload them here, but I'm not sure when I will have access to my stuff again..

I have played with this a couple of years ago - and yes the galvos do sound like music is coming from them...in fact it is, and this is normal. You are driving the coils in the stepper motor just like you are driving the coils on a speaker.

They get fairly warm to pretty hot. I used a 20 watt amplifier to drive them. The schematics I used were directly from the suppliers of the stepper motors that I bought off e-bay. These stepper motors were used in hand held barcode scanners.

I managed to find the schematic (from e-bay) I had sitting on one of my computers... So without further ado.

Not sure if you can make out some of the values when you enlarge the photo...

C1 / C2 220uF 20V

R1 / R2 (see text below) (10 / 20 / 50 / over 50 represents amplifier output! Not resistor wattage!)

(10 watts (not needed))
(20 to 50 watts (150 ohm 2W))
(over 50 watts (270 ohm 5W))
