About $8 for a blu-ray laser diode?? Sweet.

Now to find a way to somehow get a hold of wholesale diodes...

are you referring to that schematic that was just posted or someones setup
Not really, I was referring to aaron_inc's setup. He has a collimator with plastic lenses I think, and no more than a resistor.

i'm using glass lenses and the resistor has worked for many hours of use, i dont understand why we need voltage regulation circuits when its running off batteries.

Does anyone have a pic of the beam next to a 5mw red in smoke?

ill take one of the lasers shining on a non flourescing surfacenow and ill take a photo of the beams tommorow Wink its a bit too late now.

Teh Cheat:

How does your diode run when the pot is set to 0ohm ? Still OK? or would that obliterate it?

Also, what range potentiometer / rheostat have you got there?

also, My diode comes on Tuesday, already have a hot die-cast gray case for it with a toggle switch drilled in place.

If you set it to 0 ohm, don't count on survival..

works great! Very Happy

The secret is the regular resistors (~50 ohms or so) that are hard wired in, so even with the pot at 0 ohms, there's still a total of 50 ohms so I don't burn it out.

*note* resistors do not change voltage, only current...

If you used a voltage regulator... that'd be really easy! just hook up a nine volt battery to the regulator, add the resistors, and there you go! Very Happy Or you can buy a voltage step up that uses an AAA battery to reach 5v.

PS: unauthorized text? hmm... odd...

i dont see why 2 cr123a's would be any different than 4 AAA's. it seems standard now is 6v from battery, with 47ohm resistor.

Not sure what you mean by having the resistors in series/parallel... or what...

anyways, go to the local radioshack and find a voltage step down that says it has an output of 5v and is internalized. Also, hook it up and check it first! Laughing (same thing with any electrical component, make sure it's what you want!)

I can't imagine how it'd block the three word abreviation (what WAS it) I tried the "other laser companies" and to no affect, the were left intact... Confused odd...

Wow, A bit over the top with the text filter thing wicked =(
Not impressed.

On a brighter note, My unit comes tomorrow, so cheat, was yours out of a KES-400-AAA ? And you say its safe @ 50ohm ?

Because thats how mines gonna be, Someone tell me if this will FAIL:

4x AA 1.5v
1x 50ohm Resistor.
1x 200ohm Potentiometer.

Also, heres some pics of my die-cast case, I have already drilled the switch hole and I'm gonna rig the laser up before I do the aperture hole.
