Yes, I am back! I was away for quite a while due to my profession but I have returned. Interesting that I screwed up the last laser diode by not connecting it correctly, I have to admit the sticker is very deceptive and I never thought of trying the case of the diode as in the case with all others oh well lesson learned.

Here is the photo of the old one.

As you can see it appears that both "electrodes" are + and -. however they are BOTH - ! , not well depicted in the sticker. I wound up selling the diode as "scrap" thinking it was shorted and not knowing any better. I waited for a while for another one to show up cheap and alas a new diode and the correct way to hook it up..

check out the YouTube video. I am looking for a lens, as you can see the laser appears in a "bar" shape and needs to be focused. I used binocular lens but I am sure it's not as effective as correct lens.

The coffee cup had water in it, you can see and hear it boil as the laser hits the thin wall.

WOW, I would guess that after you focus the beam, it will really burn through stuff a lot more quickly. I have to be careful not to burn down my trailer, being the trailer trash that I am.

1. These are diode arrays, not a single diode.

2. Ebay has a 100W being sold for $850, says they sell for $18,500 new:

get a cylindrical lense ( like a line generator ) to stretch the beam use the lense sideways so you get a square and then through it through the other lense to converge it.
