Thanks Godfrey, very interesting. In a previous post I asked if anyone new whether it was possible to make a reflection Hologram using a Laser pointer.
I do know that a stable TEM00 mode is required, if as some posts suggest the mode changes during operation this would preclude making a Hologram.

There is a page on Wikipedia which shows even more different TEM modes, and goes in to a heck of a lot of detail on the physics side.

Just type 'Transverse mode' into search to find it. But you have been warned, it does contain equations! Twisted Evil
