Can anyone recommend a laser that would be appropriate for experimenting with holography, specificly using AGFA 8E75 paper.
I'm not really interested in burning stuff (though I guess that would be a bonus) but a higher power laser would shorten exposure time so that would be preferable.

| I am NO expert but from what I have been gathering on this forum is its not always about power but divergence especially when holagraphy is involved.I might be wrong tho |

*****-ion lasers are sometimes used for holography, and they can be focused pretty well. They are also rather poor at burning things. _________________ Lasers are like potato chips - you can't have just one!
Nexus 95mw, Confirmed 173 mw Pulsar, , 131mw argon-ion laser, Core laser, and Signature Fusion 125mw, 100mw blue - average output 131mw - lab laser, and a 20 WATT (yeah you read that right!) CO2 laser!:

I have previously used Helium Neon lasers with success, though I don't know if the Red lasers that are sold at Wicked Lasers are the same wavelength of light. I'm also having some difficulty in finding any info on the paper that I have as it's a pretty old type of paper and no longer in use.

I dont know that much about holography, but from what I do know you need everything to be stable. That includes the laser. The green lasers have a linewidth of like 0.1 nm, which is horrendous. A HeNe laser is more like 0.001 nm, and a stabilized diode laser can be orders of magnitude better then that.
The lack of laser stability would probably provide results similar to any other instability such as shaky mounts or wind blowing across your experiment. |

Yes stability is key, I didn't realize that there was that much movement in the laser itself. Perhaps when I was using HeNe lasers it was such a small amount as to be no issue I just forgot about it alltogether.

It appears as though my 8E75 film has best sensitivity at around 400 - 450nm then from about 575 - 725nm.
Given this info and the stability issues discussed, can anyone make a recommendation?

| I would try to see if you can get a stabilized diode laser from somewhere. Otherwise you can just build one yourself, it is pretty easy. |

Good point, as I mentioned above the linewidth of stabilized diode lasers is less then HeNe lasers.
coherence length is wavelength^2/linewidth
So stabilized diode lasers have longer coherence lengths than HeNe lasers and they are way cheaper. |
