Yes, it's a little tricky. On most Pulsars, the beam converges at some point in the beam. I've forgotten the typical distances, but I believe it's usually a good ways (as in, 10ft plus...perhaps up to 40 - I'm sure someone else can answer this definitively). At the aperture the beam is too wide to do much - if any - burning.

With caps? It's a burning machine.

Yes, with caps. You can pop balloons without a lens, but burning requires lenses. The beam is green.

On a side note, this forum has a wealth of information already posted by other users (including, I'm quite sure, the answers to the questions you've asked). Learn to use the handy-dandy "Search" box in the upper right-hand corner of the forums. Simply type in what you're looking for and hit "Go".

The only thing I would add to what NEX said is, the focal point of the Pulsar is usually around 15-20 meters Wink

as close to the apature as you want. executives don't converge they diverge.

10ft...20m...same thing, right? Embarassed

I remember reading the 20m thing somewhere on the forums, but also remember filing it under "too far away for me to bother with a tripod, etc." Having said that, I'm sure I'll get bored enough to tackle that little project sometime down the line.

One quick note about the Phoenix focal point. crazyjeff714 is quite right, but be careful about placing anything you want to burn too close (particularly matches) as you can damage the lens inside the aperture.

I realize this is a silly disclaimer, but I heard on another forum about someone killing a laser (or the lens, anyway) by sticking a match in the aperture to light it. Shocked

so the fact is that both are burners, but i noticed that the phoenix is a 75mw and pulsar up to 125mw... i know that 75mw have less burning capabilities is this a fact 2 consider if i buy the phoenix, will it burn as much as the pulsar?

p.s--i was planning on purchasing a phoenix or pulsar100....+why multiple caps in a cap set do they burn off or become wasteful after a certain amount of time?

P125 are overpowered in many cases. Shrecken Licht has one that puts out 176mW. I don't know about others.
