How come you guys never hold the laser immediately infront of the peice of paper or tape or whatever you are burning? (I mean like less than a few mm away)
In the videos I only see you guys holding the laser several inches away but I would imagine the lasers strength would much greater if held immediately close to the subject. Or does it take several inches for the beam to focus directly or something? |

The reflection of the laser could cause excess heat build up within the laser apperature and cause damage, also there isn't much difference in power when used at couple inches...lets say 5cm. I'll explain below.
The beam has a divergence of <1.5mrad, meaining at 1 meter the beam will be <1.5mm in diameter. The beam exits the apperature at ~0.5mm(where ~ means aproximatly). If my calculations are correct then at 1 meter the beam is ~<1mm wider. So at 4cm(40mm) the beam will be ~<0.04mm wider then when it exited the apperature, for a total of ~<0.54mm. The power loss is negligable at this distance, however it provides a safe distance to operate for the laser.
cheers, |

To see how far away we can still burn, pop, smolder, scorch, fry and basically destroy 'N3ROWN3D!' with our kickass Wicked Lasers! Laser light is SOO much fun! Cheers Dale _________________ Best Regards Chargerman
