EXCELLENT example! Very good job demonstrating the method behind those eBay & other online scams! It clearly shows that you should buy from a reputable dealer!

I bought a dirt-cheap 50mW greenie on eBay, just to see. I will find out how much it sucks as soon as it arrives. Smile

I bought a 5mw greenie on ebay, but it's complete crap. It puts out a lot of IR, and stopped putting out green after a short while! I have a IR webcam, so I know it puts out IR. But, before I got a bit more knowledge out those cheap greenies, I nearly looked into the IR beam when the green stopped.

So, does anyone know how much mw of IR is emited by a 5mw max (it only stated the max) cheapest ever greenie?

5mW greens have 200-250mW pump laser diodes, after it passes through the optical train you might get anywhere up to 50mW or so IR without an IR filter. If you remove the MCA, you would get 200-250mW of 808nm out.

what about the wicked lasers that are sold on ebay? Is even that not legit?

Seller dig_that_groove sells legit WLs. Other than that though, its very hit and miss on ebay, with the majority being "miss".

Does anyone know if this guy is legit or not? I just ordered on ebay without knowing counterfeiting was such an issue. How can I tell when it arrives whether or not it is genuine/safe? Thanks in advance.

(I cant post URLs yet, sorry about that) User is "guitmath" and is selling the 5mw Core.

It probably is a good CORE unit, but when it comes to lasers and eBay... there's always a chance you can get something other then what you were expecting.

So what power do you usually get when the pump diode puts out 400mW like the IR techlaser ? Also I have a ledlight which have fallen on the ground four times and it's broke. The only thing I get from it is very small amounts of green and some red (or IR) when looked into the aperture. Are the crystals misalligned ? If so I would harvest and take the MCA to get a 200mW IR ledlight.
