An e-prom contains a clear window that exposes the semiconductor material to allow for erasing them. Eproms are erased with UV light. I may try programming a pattern to the device and seeing if the laser beam erases the data, maybe I can reset specific portions of the chip. Good for resetting the security bit on secure microcontrollers then read back byte data.

Laughing I think your laser is overkill Wink

Nevertheless, nice pictures you got there; I love that laser of yours. I imagine though that the EPROM is probably not going to be erased by it, considering that it comes across that wavelength all the time in ambient light. It would be awfully frustrating programming it and then having it wipe out due to normal light.

Anyway, great pics!

Then again, ambient light does have UV too. Atleast plenty of UV is coming from the sun. Maybe it`s a question of intensity.

It certainly has to do with intensity, but generally these chips are meant for use indoors, though it can probably get by unless its a particularly sunny day and its out there for a few hours.

Define Ambient light, indoors there is almost no UV component in the ambient light. Outside or in places that get sunlight during the day ambient light will have some UV. Direct sunlight, depending on time of year will have plenty of UV to erase that Epprom.

As for the blue laser, it might work. At the wavelength you are using the epprom is probably less sensitive to that wavelength then the UV in the eraser, but it is much more intense.

Try writting FF to all locations then hit it with the laser and read it back. If you don't see a change try writting all 00 to the epprom and try again. See what you can get it to do. Actually epproms were used as imagers before CCDs became so prevelent.

Have a good one.

WOW, how many mW's are there? You could see separate beams coming from the eprom.

Is it an handheld?
