Does anyone know anything about an article that I remember reading in Scientific American about 15 or 20 years ago that discussed a crystal which allowed for a self-tracking optical laser system? I don't recall the details, and I know it sounds almost like science-fiction, but the crystal somehow allowed time-reversal reflections to automatically filter and modify the light's multiple possible paths down to just those for which there were objects that reflected light back to the crystal. They included some diagrams that showed laser light from the crystal (with no moving parts) tracking multiple objects, because the beams were only reinforced along the paths to the reflecting objects.
I've tried searching for the article and haven't been able to find anything about it. I hope it's still available and the technology wasn't suppressed for security reasons. Thanks. _________________ Take care,
