| I have become very interested in building a laser scanner recently. So far I don't have the money or knowledge but I have been researching a lot. I have already look at Boomdogs and Andy-cons site and they both helped. Do you guys know of any other sites with really really indepth tutorials and explainations of everything. For instance I don't even know why there is an amp in the whole circuit. Anything is a help. Thanks. |
i didnt answer your question
the DAC sends the signal to the scanner amp which then tells the galvos what to do.
so it sends different voltages and the galvos turns |

Dang... Now I REALLY want to look into getting some good lab lasers and building a REAL scanning system... But I'll never afford it or have anywhere to put it, especially when I head off to college in a few years.... Bummer... But hey, maybe I'll find a way to pull it off, and then rent it out to clubs at college! Haha, quite the possibility...
So, with something like that, if you add up... :
Galvos
Lab lasers
Amp
Mounting/heatsinks/fans
Dichro and other optics
Software
Everything else...
What do you think, in USD, would the total cost be?
EDIT: Oh, and is there a way in your planned setup where you would be able to split it from being a yellow beam (seeing as you have a green and red module in place) to just red and green? It looks like you've got it prepared to be a permanent yellow, but I'm wondering if I'm just missing something.... _________________

ok start off simple
you can get some 20k scanners for a few 100
you can probably get a 50mw green module for 100 odd $
and thats all you need apart from a box
if you look at the flah animation on my 15k scanner page at the top, it kinda explinas how RGY works |

@ iroot.......Just joined the forum...I know this thread is a little old but I am part way through building my own scanner and found that a range finder camera like a Zorki (99pence from ebay) will, when taken apart, give you a nice adjustable combiner or splitter....I am combining R & G and get a reasonable Y.....if only I could afford a more powerful red

I just got my DT-40s running last night - very cool.
In your design how are you insulating the underside of the amps from making electrical contact with the heatsinks? |
