What do you want the laser to be able to do? What will it be used for?

For 1W you'll be looking in the >$2k range. As you're asking for 500mW-1W I don't think this will really interest you, but I have a 200mW green lab that ended up being surplus on an order. PM me if you want a great deal on it.

As likewhat said though, what is the laser for? Laser entertainment/lasershows? Burning? Holography? Pumping other lasers? Some legit scientific app? Razz

I'd like to heat up a squirrel within a second or so. That would be very practical here in the woods where they terrorize all the plants and flowers in the yard!

Hahaha... Apostle, that's the funniest thing I've read in a while. I have a lot of neighbors that would love to do the same thing to the squirrels around here.

You'd have to have a lot of power, relatively speaking, to do that - probably a few watts at any distance. But that's a huge eye danger to anyone who might be around and could be a fire hazard, besides such lasers are very costly. Personally, I'd recommend getting yourself a BB gun and using a green laser of 15mw or so as a gun sight to target the hairy little pests.....you don't have to put them 6 feet under just sting their butts and they'll get the message pretty quickly...

Honestly they are true pests here. I have no problem coexisting with nature under normal circumstances, but with these critters, there is no justice. They eat and tear up everything and there is no getting rid of them. A few years ago I graduated from the pellet rifle to a .22 - within 2 months, I went from burying them to heaving their bodies out into the forest to rot but it seemed that for every single one I thought I eliminated, two would fill its place. I have given up on any thoughts of yielding fruit from my trees and I let 'em run wild. I've hit them in the eyes with green lasers and it doesn't do anything. The don't seem to mind.. they've simply WON THE BATTLE here! Crying or Very sad

Thanks for your post -- your comment regarding eye danger is well received (I'm a retired eye doc, so I know all about foveal and retinal damage).
