Here's an interesting concept the gov't is working on to possibly replace the chemical lasers in use for weaponry today.

Makes you wonder about the ones they DON'T tell you about! _________________ Lasers are like potato chips - you can't have just one!

Eye-safe wavelengths, I assume its wavelength will be around ~1300nm, pretty much the same wavelength as the ABLs (oxygen iodine lasers).
Someone correct me if I am wrong. _________________ >>Click here to go to my laser userbars site!<<

What I would really like to know about is the diameter of the beam nessesary to make satillite lasers practicle wihtout becoming useless from divergence. My guess is this happens somwhere betwen 6 inches and 3 feet. If you think about this the level of power required just to set of a match at this level is HUGE and thus even the most powerful lasers of today will have limited irradence on the ground. Then again maybe we will get to the point where a 6" beam of death can rain down from the sky and vaporize the cement and steel on the ground. (Maybe melt planes during flight?) _________________ Green: 5mW Core + 35mW Executive + ''''130mW'''' (86.28mW tested) EnVee

| It could have a focal point. And measure the altitude with an IR laser to make a perfect focal point... |
