is it me, or using lasers with that power could point to the enemy the position of the laser user? (aka soldier)
wouldn't it be better to use infrared lasers? if they use the night-vision, they can see it _________________ D14852001::neko.eth0 |

I guess the visible laser has an intimidation factor. But it would give away your position. IR laser would definitely be the way to go for spotting.
But those vids are all night vision, so they may very well be IR lasers.
I can see some that look like lasers, and the rest are flashlights? Not sure.

well yeah, you could use a green laser with a bit of diffraction to blind a person momentarily, but while fighting, using green lasers would make the user stand out, allowing a sniper to take him/her out!
but if you used an ir-laser, only those using night-vision lenses would see the beam _________________ D14852001::neko.eth0 |

But if they know your using IR wouldn't they arm thier snipers with Night-vision? |

well, the same thing with green lasers, just that you have the advantage that maybe, and just maybe, they wouldn't know about you using ir-lasers...
is there a way to see UV? like UV goggles? that way you could use UV lasers... I don't think they would have UV goggles...
or what about tuning the Night Vision goggles to respond to an specific wavelength, therefore, allowing the lasers to be used (obviously, tuned), seen by the army, invisible to the enemy _________________ D14852001::neko.eth0 |

Better than a highly visible green beam that can be seen by the naked eye. |

Why use a laser for a military finder... sounds a little silly to me, just use a finderscope... _________________ Me feild englnish? dat unposible;

i guess in close quarter combat, lasers are somewhat of a help,
infrared are better for air strikes but some night vision are made to see them...
for longer ranges tho, most likely no laser or a UV, i would imagine a UV goes farther... |

| i would not be worrying about carrying around a laser...my rifle would be my only friend. I can see how it could be used for tactics. If it was mounted to my rifle, then maybe... |

Theres no such thing as 'giving away your position' in iraq unless you're a Scout Sniper.. otherwise they KNOW where you are..
we used to use red/green lasers in our humvees to point out possible IEDs on the road.
IR Lasers (PEQ 2s \ PEQ 4s) are used with night vision and are BZO'd to the rifles to just 'point and shoot' at night.. but otherwise in the marines I havn't used lasers for anything else.. never had anything 'high powered' either.. -shrug- |
