love to get my hands on that sob, also like to know what it would do to a rocket that didn't have a black head on it and coming straight for it. _________________ The more advanced we as a human race becomes, the more we as a human race looses our humanity. - Sean Patrick Feeney

That would be an infred image, the laser is invisible as it is ~3200nM. _________________

Why does everyone think lasers must be visible? _________________

Because visible lasers are the ones we see the most often |

Yes, but they are less common that IR and even UV lasers. You would be surprised how many applications use eximer lasers! And the IR lasers are incredible. There are over 100 lasing mediums and methods that I can name! _________________

Calm down, 'twas just a joke (but if you think about it, it makes sense in a way).
Between TV, movies, and laser pointers though, what would you expect? Not everyone has to be a laser geek like us.
I'm not saying most lasers are visible, just giving reasons why people would think that.

Imagine if THEL was a visible laser....say at the "classic" 532 nm wavlenghth (that would be one heck of a YAG and KTP crystal! Don't know how on earth you'd get rid of the heat build up fast enough.... )......
If you can get flashblinded from looking at the dot of a class 3B greenie - a 532 MW greenie could conceivably light up the whole dark side of the moon!!!! I guess you'd need OD-300 532nm glasses - or better yet, a lead shield!
BTW, kudos to whomever added this forum! _________________ Lasers are like potato chips - you can't have just one!
Nexus 95mw, Confirmed 173 mw Pulsar, , 131mw argon-ion laser, Core laser, and Signature Fusion 125mw, 100mw blue - average output 131mw - lab laser, and a 20 WATT (yeah you read that right!) CO2 laser!:
