I'm really suprised that the e2s performed so much better. It seemed to me that my Phoenix ran about the same on both, but I'll have to make sure to keep some e2s on hand for "special occasions".

Sure I'll give it a go.

I noticed that the Phoenix and this laser both need their batteries recharged after about the same amount of use though, but yeah I wouldn't mind finding this out also.

Athoul, that freak unit is pretty amazing. Did the freak unit always produce this much power from the day you received it? Or was this something that happened after you had been in possession of it for awhile?

It seems to have always output this since I've had it, though at first I had slightly used batteries and so it wasn;t as noticable until I purchased some NiMH rechargables. Something during shipping might have banged it into a better postion...I have no idea.

Yeah it's not bad at all, it's about a 50% conversion rate...though I've heard of someone that had leadlight unit with a 60% conversion rate running on a 250mW diode in LC awhile back.

Nexus, were freak units more common 6 months ago? I'm assuming since the Nexus at the time was the top model, anything that rated 95mW or more was sold as a Nexus, so the odds were higher to get one outputing far above 95mW?

Athoul,

Yes, when you bought the laser months ago, anything higher would still be called a Nexus, we started collecting the higher end units shortly afterwards and assigned new models for them. However, I am skeptical of the 250mW output claim, We have had 200mW, but I don't think its likely 250mW output. Check to see if the IR filter is missing, because if it is, it can cause false readings like that on a Coherent Lasercheck. You can check by looking into the focusing lenses/IR filter disc and comparing the freak unit with a non-freak unit. Does the brightness really seem to be that much greater than your other lasers?

Best Regards

Athoul, you are a very lucky man to have that freak laser. It must have some ultra high quality crystals or something. Could you post some beam shot comparisons between it and your other wicked lasers?

193-210mW seems to be about where it is at with NiMH batteries, the IR filter looks like it is in place but I'll examine it. It's also possible that more voltage is getting to the diode with 1.5V batteries, I still have to check this out.

I'm still unsure why 1,5V batteries made such a difference, unless the IR filter fell out of place as you said, or more voltage is getting to the diode. If the 250mW has anything to do with the IR filter coming loose I will update the Lithium comparison.

derratte>There are comparisons and videos etc in a thread called powerful wicked laser.

I purchased my first 5mw recently ( Very Happy ). I don't know if there would be a noticable difference if I picked up some lithium e2's. How much more do you think lithiums would pump out of it? Above 5mw? I'm interested in getting a more visible beam at night. Would another few mw make any difference?

It would depend on if it has an APC or not. What model/company 5mW laser is it? and what batteries do you use now?

I believe it's a leadlight, but I'm actually unsure whether it's a 105 or 110. I actually don't have much idea about the APC either, but I believe it doesn't have an APC. I actually haven't received it yet, but I picked up some lithiums at wal-mart tonight anyway. Expensive little things.

If it has an LED indicator then it is a 110, if not it's most likely a 105. The 105's are much easier to adjust in order to get more out of them then the 110's, but they can be adjusted/modded too.

I know 105s can be pot modded, but I know not much about it. I know the button needs to come off and you need to turn up the little pot, but from then how do you turn it on if the button is gone? The tutorial i saw required actually cracking the button off.

I have been using energiser advanced now and picked up some oxyrides. THe oxyrides are cheaper and burn one hell of alot better. I could feel my finger heat up about 2x quicker (2 secs) so that it actually properly stung a tiny little bit. Usually with the advanceds it would take about 3-4seconds.
