has anyone ever used one of these types of lights?
http://www.unitednuclear.com/ircannon.htm

it is pretty much a maglite with the "LED Maglite" mod done to it, and IR LEDs instead of regular LEDs...

i've been thinking of making for myself a night vision eyepiece, and was originally going to use IR lasers mounted to the headset, but something like this looks like it would give better light.

sorry if i'm not allowed to talk about this here, i guess just delete it if that's so.

It's sort of related... It's IR....

But if you're in any doubt... I think there's still an off-topic section.

I have an InfraRed module for a night vision scope. It's a higher frequency of IR, though, and you can barely see the red light if you look directly at the LED.

I hear it's still very dangerous, though. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean you can't ruin your eyes.

Also, why would someone need something like this?

You can purchase white LED-Grid flashlights for around the same price, I'm sure...and you can actually SEE the light that is emitted.

And it's not like it can burn through garbage bags or pop balloons from 30ft away :PPP

It' for people that have IR cameras, or nightvision cameras. If you look though a IR camera and use the flashlight, you'll see everything.

But it still won't pop balloons from 30+ ft away Sad

Also, I'm kind of insecure with anything invisible and potentially harmful. When a bright light is shown into your eye, your eyelids blink to physically block out the light. I don't think that same reflex covers invisible light...It's like having no feeling in your skin. You could injure yourself and not even know it.

Those flashlights are for professionals, like people trained to use them.
