It would be really cool to have a purple laser! I guess the price is like 1,200,149 USD, but do you have any information about them?

Technical nit-picking Wink : Purple is a non-spectral color made by combining red light with blue or violet light. Violet is the proper term to use when describing single-wavelength lasers near 400nm, such as the Sonar.

A purple laser WOULD be a very cool thing - because you could split the beam with a prism into red and blue/violet! Very Happy

The sonar is violet. So violet that it's almost UV.
The 'blue' bit comes in from the fact that the laser-diodes are from Blu-Ray players.... But.... Blue they're not. They're beyond blue...

Yea it is very close to UV, being around 400nm:

It 400nm area looks almost black in this image though...

I would love to see pictures, especially ones like the cool prism work that RR does. Wink Wink Wink

here's a better chart...

As you see, the sonar wouldn't be too visible... though I do think it would be more visible than that!

The first spectrogram is an accurate representation of the visible spectrum, sunlight through a prism looks exactly the same. A laser outputting violet light would be very dim indeed.

So what color is 555nm? Half Green and Half Yellow?

Nice chart, I've been trying to look for one like this.

Pretty much. One would probably call it lime. Remember when they started changing US red firetrucks to lime green fire-trucks? All about visibility.

It would be cool to have a purple one..but the violet laser is even less visible than the reds. So it would take a heck of a lot of power to make it nice and bright.

It would resemble the color of a blacklight LED, and would have low apparent brightness considering the power level.

You have this nice spectrogram within this thread and you still have to ask this question. Go take a look at it, it will answer your question.
