This is a general annocement to everyone.

There will be a zero tolerance of spamming, foul language etc.

In the past it seems that if were quick to ban, we got labeled as biased or intolerant. However it seems that with the new influx of people, we have no choice but to become a bit less tollerant.

Therefore if anyone violates the rules for whatever reason, after you have been warned. You're gone.

X2

Stickies are placed where they are conveniently located and highly recommended, make that required, reading material.

Lost a lot of folks due to the conditions recently. Good folks with good input. Time to get the "laser" back in Laser Community. Laser forum, not romper room.

I do want to thank those that have been assisting with issues. However, keep any bashing of each other within the dedicated "off topic" thread and out of others posts. That is what it is there for. Deviation from that will result in deleted posts and potential banning. Consider this a fair warning.

JD (biased of course)

I think what we need are an "official rules" section in addition to the terms of service we agreed too when we registered.

Also, I think these would be reasonable action against users:

incivility, first offense - 24-72 hour ban, depending on severity
incivility, second offense - 1-3 week ban, depending on severity
incivility, third offense - indefinite ban
scammers - indefinite ban on first offense
blatant spammers - indefinite ban on first offense

We should also crack down on users who use sock-puppet accounts to cause trouble/evade bans, etc.

People here are generally well behaved. But Forum Rules will be enforced when it comes to abusing other members, or showing discourtesy and rudeness.

Just stick to the rules everyone. The rules are in place to keep the forum as friendly and fair as possible. Failure to comply may also result in other unpleasantries as well - besides Bannination.

People bashing each other has been quite common here and like Gadge said there are threads for this ie: Off topic bashing playgroung and the FIGHT CLUB !!!! threads, these were there for this purpose so people could iron out their problems. Anyone who is off a nervous, timid disposition or feel offended by people bashing each other should not. 1. read the bashing playground thread and 2. Not read the FIGHT CLUB !!!! thread..

Please keep the rest of the forum for LASERS Cool

I doubt this is possible, but if so, please look into buying vBulletin. The forum has a 'warning' system built in. Just getting their warnings will scare most people into behaving where a ban often makes them angry so they create several accounts to spam the forums.

Other than that... HA! Told ya so.

I hope to see Nexas add another mod, and this forum get a bit cleaner. One last thing, I think you’re going way to war with the 'required reading material'. You now have at least 25 stickeys. The information in them is often all thought-out the thread and hard to understand. Unless you get it down to 1 stickey per forum (about a page) then you will just be yelling at people for no reason. If you answer their question and then tell them to use the search device from now on or they won't be helped, then you will quickly make everyone happy (expect newbies) and skilled. Also repeated threads do often get father. For example the 'laser law' threads always get more detailed and closer to the truth. The most recent one (what is it, the 4th overall?) is even a stickey now! New members can't read that!

I agree that a warning system is a good idea.

I'm still very much a newbie to this place and wouldn't want to lose my membership to a valuable resource because I inadvertently broke a rule that I was too lazy, impatient, or stupid to read whilst hunting for MORE INPUT...!

A simple way to implement a warning system (without coughing up bucks for more software) would be to send the 'offender' a PM and posting that the user has 'offended' in a 'moderator-only' thread and/or posting in a public thread to announce impending bans if behaviour does not improve.

That's just my thoughts, take them or leave them but I'd seriously hope that if I was infringing your rules, you'd have a quiet word in my ear before locking the door on me.

We always do and usually multiple times before that happens. Depends on the nature of the offense. There are several reasons tommy is gone and abusive (language) posts to others by him have been removed. Most of them anyway.

I'm in no doubt that Tommy was given plenty of opportunity to address his behaviour. I've been posting here for what, 3 days now ? I've read more than enough to convince me that he was a waste of bandwidth and that other users were getting more than fed up of his antics.

I seem to remember that he said something rather childish to me at one point too. Something about my NCI laser being a pile of doodoo or something like that if I recall. I can't be too positive, because I tend to pay little attention to childish posts in technical message-boards.

I've gotta say, the most accurate thing I saw him say was when he posted (about himself), "I'm a looser without any friends".
Such a loser that he can't even spell the word correctly. Sad... Really sad !!!

Apart from the bickering from the children, I've found this place to be most useful and informative.

We all ask daft questions from time to time. Sometimes it actually helps to ask the 'stupid' questions, especially when one has so little formal knowledge of a subject that we have to resort to absolute basics to clarify our understanding, or when we really don't have the vocabulary to express our queries in a more eloquent or elegant manner. Besides, it often prevents others from needing to ask the same 'stupid' questions.

There was an interviewer on UK radio that I used to detest because I thought he was a pratt. Until I realised that his interviewing technique was to ask the idiotic questions that many of the no-nothings might ask about such a topic. Once I realised that's what he was doing, I gained a certain amount of respect for his technique and style.

Tommy, however, certainly did not fall into that bracket.

*NCI - Yes, I did mean to type NCI not CNI.

Should be gone now. I try to get them all when I'm on, as do the other admin/mods. Sometimes some slip by for a while, not sure how one or two spammers were able to post more then a couple times though.

Ok cool.

Yeah he was here last night, and I thought a couple of his posts were deleted. But he still remained.

Oh well, its taken care of now. But these spam bots? are quite persistent.

Isnt there any way the forum can do something to avoid them being able to sign up? That is if they are bots.

I thought there was a verification where you had to enter the letters that appeared as an image. Perhaps the bots can get by this, though I can;t remember if there is any other form of spam protection at signup. Some, if not all, of these spammer are actually people, so they would get by it regardless. There are a some that do seem to be bots though.
