Not sure where I should place this topic at the moment, so it's here for now.

Quick refrence for anyone wishing to build a laser from diodes within the common media devices available. I hope this helps.

CD Player --- <2mW @ 780nm
CD Burner/Recorder --- ~30-60mW @ 780nm. Faster is better.
DVD Player --- <5mW @ 650nm
DVD Burner/Recorder --- ~50-200mW @ 650nm. Faster is better.
Blu-Ray Player --- <5mW-<15mW @405nm
Blu-Ray Burner/Recorder --- ~50-65mW @405-408nm.

It's likely that it's just a CD or DVD (not sure) reader, you're likely to get around 5mW of 650nm if it's a DVD reader and less than a mW if it's a CD reader.
