Well, that was what it looked like to the naked eye Wink (actually looks better than the pictures), but with a bit of smoke. Without the latter, you won't see the beam like this, and certainly not in lit conditions. Take it outside on a humid evening on the other hand, and it can look spectacularly bright; especially if you walk down the beam and look back towards the laser - but of course not into the beam Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Here's a photo of another 100mW 650nm laser very similar to the Pulsar, alongside a green 25mW, taken on a typical humid late-summer evening. Again, the photo doesn't do justice to how it looked 'live':

Cheers,
Erling

Hmmm, thats interesting because everyone talks about how "faint" it is....Maybe they are looking at the beam from the side...

Thats for the pics EGP!!!

It depends a lot on the humidity in the air. On a cold, frosty evening, with very dry air, the beam can be hard to even spot. On a typical summer evening/night here in Scandinavia, with high humidity in the air, it's dramatically bright - especially when looking towards the laser, like mentioned before.

Cheers,
Erling

It's a Konica-Minolta Dimage A2, which is what I've used for all my laser photos.

Cheers,
Erling

my Pulsar puts out a steady 180mW with new batteries (according to my LaserCheck) and it's kind of hard to see outside at night unless there is fog or very high humidity.

Wow that's very good i don't have a meter to measure mine but it's very visible at night and even better with fog. Maybe my pulsar kicks more than 100mw as i can pop balloons at 10 metres within 5 second of contact on the balloon Laughing

Blacksheep: How can you periodically use your school's computers at school? Do your teachers just let you be on the computer during class or what. Just curious.

Our school has a laptop program, it's awesome. We usually can get on them whenever. Theres a wireless server in each classroom.

They're used moslty for work mainly but we get a lot of time on them when the teachers dont really care or notice what we're doing. We even take a lot of tests on the laptops.

It's hard to photograph lasers because the camera sets the exposure to where the beam is brightest... usually the dot.

A good way to test the Pulasar laser is to place it alongside a 5mW pointer of the same colour. Here's a picture that I took in a SLIGHTLY smoked room (using an incense candle).

http://www.pbase.com/nero_design/image/52322348

Note that the 5mW beam is barely even visible.

Here we are again... same room and just a hint of smoke.
This time you can compare the 100mW Red with a 10 & 30mW green

In a lit room with no smoke at all (and at night), you should see a very faint cherry-coloured beam except when viewing the laser in profile (from the side). This beam is faint and not a sharp as green lasers of a similar output. This is because green lasers peak at the most visible range of the colour spectrum to our eyes. Red is not so visible.

But add just the lightest bit of smoke or atmosphere to a room (try igniting two matches and bloing them out again before turning on your laser to see what I mean) and your beam should become very bright... just like this one: http://www.pbase.com/nero_design/image/52322361

Hmm.. well.. I think its running in spec. The dot is visible in dark time about 500m away very well.
