Hi Laser Community members! As the title of this tread states, Laser Community is about to undergo a change in management. We’re looking to improve Laser Community and to bring this forum to greater heights. There are several areas we hope to improve on and before doing any drastic changes, we would like your input and opinion.
I’m going to post some questions here. Feel free to speak your mind and please be honest. We’re looking for constructive comments that can help shape new site functions, member capabilities, forum topics, and the forum rules and regulations.
Laser Community’s goal is to promote lasers as a hobby and to create an open environment for laser enthusiasts to mingle, communicate and discuss laser related topics. How would you add to, remove, or edit the current forum rules and regulations? Please keep in mind some rules are placed for anti-spamming purposes. Do you have any suggestions to improve upon our current anti-spamming policy?
We’re here to serve the laser community. Are there any site functionalities or member capabilities you would like us to implement or improve? Are there any functions that would help improve communications or overall usability of the site? Maybe you have a specific function or capability from another site you want us to implement, copy and paste the link for us to see!
How about forum topics? Any topics you would like us to add or change?
Contests or events? Any ideas of contests or events you would like Laser Community to host?
We’re a community and your opinion is valuable to our future. Thank you in advance! |

Well, the whole marketplace idea is a definite no. Laser Community had a trades and sales section once, but people kept getting bad deals and in some cases, flat-out robbed. Unless Wicked were somehow playing middle-man in all such transactions(which would be impossible for them to do), the same would happen again. So to keep LC a happy place to be, Wicked will probably refuse to go that route again. One possibilty though: If Wicked would allow a sort of trade-in page, where people could trade in there old Wicked Laser for credit towards an upgrade. WL could then sell these pre-owned(and tested to ensure quality) lasers at reduced prices. I saw a similar concept elsewhere. _________________ \"I have astigmatism. | I would love to see more contests as I feel they really entice people to join the forum. While mentioning the contest to my friends a few of them signed up for the forum, and two actually bought lasers! |

The laser review section idea sound great, that would be a definite plus, though if all the previous reviews were to to be moved to a new section, it would be a lot of work fo the admin's to do. That, or we would still have a bunch of old, and very helpful reviews burried amongst pages of old posts going back pretty far.
The used laser trade in/sale page is potentially a good thing, though it might not always be cost effective due to the cost of overseas shipping, if the laser has had enough use, or if it not cost much when it was new. Perhaps if the only lasers being traded in costed over $100 when new, and had been used for less than half their predicted diode lifetime, this could work, but if, say, people wanted to trade in an old CORE, it would just be a waste of time.
So there's a lot to think about, but these two idea's have a lot of potential, and i'm glad you guys thought of them.
One thing i'd like to add, something many have complained about, is not being allowed to mention other laser companie's products. It seems rather pointless, and i really don't think that people mentioning competitors products here at LC would/could detract any buissiness from WL, or it's affiliates. If anything, it might help, since people could discuss and compare products/expiriences, and reveal even more, that WL is better than any of the others. Nearly all the products the competitors sell, are CNI models, of which Wicked's afilliate Techlasers sells at lower prices. _________________

Thank you for all the comments so far, these are very good suggestions. I'm sure the new management team will thoroughly review these comments and place those that are fitting in action. Please keep the suggestions coming!
After rigorous meetings and some heavy decision making, we have decided to have Laser Community fall under new management and be run completely independent of Wicked Lasers. The new Laser Community will be web 2.0 based and be an open platform for laser enthusiasts, laser companies, and even laser related professionals.
I will allow Mr. David Scott to continue this conversation and give you more details about the new Laser Community. He will be our new moderator and leader in the web 2.0 project. Thank you for all your support so far and enjoy the new Laser Community - it's not only a forum, it's an entire community. |

I assume that askdave has something to do with with this new management, and I believe that adding new topics could just be the begining. I think that better customization would be useful, as the theme of LC has not changed in the almost 2 years I have been here. But specifically I would like to see a chat room on the side, or in a separate window. Another (somewhat complex) thing to add, would be to have a mouseover for specific words. For example, if I hold my mouse over "spyder III" A small description would appear near the words, and perhaps a link to the WL website.
I have many more ideas but do not feal like posting them all now. "Laser Community 2.0" could potentially be very amazing. |

I agree that a reviews section needs to be implemented. I would love to be able to see pictures and opinions of various lasers. Right now it's a little hard to find reviews unless you spend some time searching. |
