(I have no other words to express my happiness)
Just a question though, what are THE chances of getting an overpowered 100mW pulsar (to go to 180mW ) ? 80 % ? 50 % ? Well I know I could have bought a 125mW pulsar but I wanted to compare a 100mW 650nm with my 95mW 532nm (we know who will win in terms of brightness).
The reasons I wanted the P100 :
- same power than my infiniti greeny
- I wanted to see the peculiar red beam (I'm getting tired of my awesome green beam)
- I wanted to burn stuff at extreme long distances ( I couldn't get caps sets due to my limited budget even though I knew that it would be well worth it) and without external collimation assembly (I failed to light a match with a 17 x binoculars)
- I wanted a wicked laser
- I like the -0.5mRad compared to my 3 mRad
- I like the chrome finish
- I want to ridiculize my friends with their 1 mW red laser toy with something 100 times more powerful (really )
- I want to mix red and green for lasershows
- I want a laser that does not require lithiums to get MAX power (yeah !!!)
Review to come !!!
I just want to recieve it before the week-end and school !

They both burn nice !!!

| I'm afraid the red beam will be very hard to see in clear conditions. You will need smoke or fog for the beam to be very visible. |

I can't beleive it !!! I ordered it yesterday night and the shipping status indicates :
MARIGNANE,
FR 01/03/2008 11:46 A.M. PACKAGE DATA PROCESSED BY BROKERAGE. WAITING FOR CLEARANCE
With a bit of luck, I might receive it tomorrow or even tonight !!! A two-day shipping is unbeleivably FAST !!!
(my techlaser took five days, three of which was marked as processing)
Thanks WL !!! _________________ Always look on the bright side of lasers... WAIT DONT !

My Pulsar (an older model) was rated at 150 mw but the guy I bought it from (second hand) had a laser power meter and it averaged around 170 mw. Plus it really helps to be able to focus the beam - I have been able to pop balloons from about 20 feet away.
As for visibility, I find that my Pulsar is about as bright as my Core. Actually whenever I can get the dots to overlap I get a yellow-ish dot so you could probably easily mix a Pulsar and a Core beam. _________________ Lasers are like potato chips - you can't have just one!
Nexus 95mw, Confirmed 173 mw Pulsar, , 131mw argon-ion laser, Core laser, and Signature Fusion 125mw, 100mw blue - average output 131mw - lab laser, and a 20 WATT (yeah you read that right!) CO2 laser!:

Hehe seems good !!! Too bad I broke two of my 5mW green green greenies !!! normally the focal point of the pulsar should be around 27 feet (9 meters) which is what I want. Just a question : what is the duty cycle of the pulsar (I want to know if it can stay long enough to light a match at 9 meters while letting the laser on, standing on my lego laser stand) ? I know the old black 150mW pulsar didn't have duty cycle.
Can you make an union of two beams with a beam splitter ? or do I need a dichroic prism to mix up a 100mW green and a 100mW + red for insane burning ?
My pulsar arrives Monday... when I go back to school and obviously I finish at 6 pm and I have a big essay due for tuesday ! Bad luck I won't have time to play with it Monday night .
Cheers ! |

I can sort of answer your first question - generally a diode laser of that power won't have a duty cycle, regardless of whether an older or newer model. I have left mine on (holding the button down with a plastic clip-type clothes pin) for several minutes, but it does get a little warm (the case).
Personally I wouldn't leave mine on for more than five minutes or so (sufficient to do most things you'd want to do, like burning and aligning or short light shows), but I have seen elsewhere on here where some people have (accidentally as I recall) left theirs on for a half hour or so (you can search the old posts for "pulsar duty cycle" and some of these posts should show up) without apparent damage to the laser.
The greens are of course a different story, unless it's a low power like a 5mw. Those you don't want to leave on more than about 90 seconds or you will risk damaging the laser and probably shorten its life. _________________ Lasers are like potato chips - you can't have just one!

OM(F)G I just got the pulsar !!!!!! And the best thing is :
I HAD A FREE UPGRADE TO 125mW !!!!!! AND IT'S RATED AT 150mW
Review to come, since I have lot's of homework. The dot is huge at aperture !! I still haven't tried burning with it though
And I like it it's smaller than my executive CNI !! |
