Just a couple slight problems with my good ol' Phoenix.
I have had this one since it was RMAd last June, and when it was new it was a good steady 80-85mW with no beam artifacts or scatter. About March, it was taken and locked up (with batteries inside, despite protest) in a steady environment with no real threats to its functionality. I just got it back, replaced the batteries, and thoroughly cleaned all the contacts. There was no corrosion of the terminals.
Now, even after my meticulous care and cleaning, the power peaks at no more than 75mW and quickly drops off to less than 60mW. I am using fresh alkalines.
There also appears to be a burned spot in the IR filter exactly where the beam strikes. This is causing a "nebula" effect around a very distorted dot. I detect no mode hopping.
I am positive that no one used the laser in any way while it was locked up. I am also far outside my warranty period. Any tips, suggestions, detailed repair instructions, etc. are highly appreciated. Thanks!

try using rechargeable NiMh batteries there voltage is lower but stable amps
and the neb affect is probably not gonna fix and is common with greens
|

I had tried several different types of batteries, nothing seems to work.
I knew the nebula effect was common to greens, but due to a scorched, whitened IR filter? Seems a little weird to me.
I believe the damage is due to the long period of disuse, though I could be mistaken.
Thanks for your input, any and all help / advice is greatly appreciated.

| having a filter that absorbs light will make the light less bright, so that is easily found. solving it may be more difficult. You can replace the IR filter, if you can get to the thing. |
